Loudonville, N.Y. - Junior co-captain Dan Abbondandolo (Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y./St. Dominic) shot a career best round of 69 this afternoon in capturing the individual title at the Cornell Invitational at the Robert Trent Jones golf course in Ithaca, N.Y. The Saints as a team placed in a two way tie for seventh with Duquesne University.

Abbondandolo shot a three round score of 212 (70-73-69) to finish four under par for the weekend and two shots ahead of Rider's Tyler Brewington who shot 214. For Abbondandolo it was his first individual win in his already stellar Siena career.

"I'm ecstatic for Dan," remarked elated Head Coach Tom Wronowski. "Dan has certainly worked hard for this; he played consistently for three rounds and deserved the win."

Junior transfer James Gifford (Niskayuna, N.Y./Shenendehowa) also had a sensational final round for the Saints who climbed two spots in the team standings on Sunday. Gifford shot a 74 on the final day and finished third individually among Siena competitors.

St. Bonaventure won the team component of the tournament, completing the weekend with a final score of 878. Siena meanwhile shot a three day total of 907 (299-308-300) in earning the seventh place tie with Duquesne.

The Saints will take a week off from the links before returning to action for their third fall invitational on October 12th at Hofstra.
