Despite being plagued by several key injuries, the Siena men's golf team played through adversity and saved their best round for last in finishing 12th at the ECAC Division I Men's Golf Championships completed this afternoon at the Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, N.Y. Sophomore Don DeNyse III led the Siena contingent, placing 48th overall.
Yale withheld a furious final round charge from Ivy League foe Columbia to capture the team crown by a single stroke. The Bulldogs swept the accolades as Ben Wescoe fired a +4 for the tournament in winning the individual title.
After struggling through the first two rounds, the Saints rebounded to shoot a team score of 309 on the final day, by far and away their best score of any round, to finish in 12th place.
DeNyse shot rounds of 82, 74 and 81 to pace the Saints. Freshman Nick Miller was second on the squad, propelled by a final round of 77.
After withdrawing from the second round due to injury, senior co-captain Dan Abbondandolo returned to the links to shoot a final round of 73. Fellow captain James Gifford, also injured during the second round, returned as well to complete the tournament.
