Final Stats
Capital Region native Sarah Morton killed 11 of her 15 attacks and Canada's Kacie MacTavish added 12 kills as Syracuse rolled past Siena 3-0 in a non-league volleyball match Tuesday night in Loudonville. Siena had won an earlier meeting between the two schools 3-0 in Syracuse.
The match turned when Syracuse posted a stunning 25-3 win in the second set after rallying from a 14-10 deficit to win the first set going away, 25-21. The Orange scored 15 straight points off the service of reserve Shanetha McLaurin to grab a 24-2 lead in the second set before Siena finally managed a sideout.
Following the 10-minute intermission, the two teams staged a competitive third set before Syracuse again broke free midway through and held on for a 25-20 win.
The Orange dominated the action at the net, collecting 13 team blocks and 38 kills. Siena meanwhile had just two team blocks and 29 kills. Morton, who attended Burnt Hills High school, was a major reason for her team's success.
The Saints were led again by junior standout Burgandy McCurty who had 10 kills, albeit in 33 attempts. On one key rally in the second set, McCurty was turned away four straight times before Syracuse took the point on a Siena attacking error. Setter April London killed four of her six attacks and finished with 23 assists. Libero Aimee Gosse had nine digs.
Syracuse libero Shanetha McLaurin had 21 of her team's 47 digs. The Orange had four aces and did not commit a service error.
The Saints will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Niagara at 5 p.m.
