Senior Day Photo Gallery LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's soccer scored six unanswered goals by six different players in a 6-1 win over Marist Sunday afternoon in Loudonville. Siena's seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony before winning their third consecutive game.
Marist (3-11-2, 0-6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute. Nico Mossa played a low cross to Lucas Szabo at the six-yard box and he one-timed it into the back of the net. Siena (8-6-1, 6-1) responded two minutes later with Joe Tavernese's far post strike from the right side of the box.
The Saints outshot Marist 16-4 in the second half and put 10 on goal. Bobby DiFilippo notched his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 53rd minute. Anthony Tagliaferri stole the ball from a defender and then sent a cross from the left side of the box to DiFilippo who scored from five yards out.
Senior Mike DeSimone scored at the 62:44 mark when he slid at the left post and shot the ball past goalkeeper Tom DeBenedetto. Sebastien Anzevui scored his fourth goal of the season less than a minute later. Tagliaferri passed the ball across the top of the box and Anzevui hit a screamer inside the left post to make it 4-0. In the 71st minute, Narode was taken down in the penalty box, earning a penalty kick for the Saints. Senior Brian Woodfield was called on by the coaches to take the kick. He placed it low to the left post as DeBenedetto guessed and dove to the right. It was Woodfield's first career goal. Freshman Matt Turcio scored to make it 6-1 in the 75th minute. DiFilippo ripped another shot that DeBenedetto blocked aside, but Turcio collected the rebound and shot it in the empty net.
Steve Skonieczny made four saves while DeBenedetto made nine.
Siena's six goals was their highest total in a game since last season's 6-2 win against Rider in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament.
The Saints return to action Friday at Iona at 3 p.m.
