#12/12 Tennessee used an 18-0 run to build a 20-point halftime lead and held off an early Siena charge in the second half to post a 78-64 win in the first game of the Old Spice Classic here at the Milk House in Lake Buena Vista. Fla in front of 3,357 fans. Wayne Chism scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead a balanced Tennessee attack.
"For the most part, I thought we executed our game plan well on defense," head coach Fran McCaffery said. "But a team like (Tennessee) will take your offensive mistakes and really create problems for you."
The Vols (4-0) shot 65% from the floor in the first half and forced 13 Siena turnovers. For the game, Siena shot just 37% from the field and 1-15 from 3-point range.
Ronald Woolridge had nine of his 14 points before the break, all on long 3-pointers.
Alex Franklin, who missed most of the first half after picking up two fouls, keyed an 11-0 run to start the second half that got Siena (2-1) back in the game. Franklin scored seven of his game-high 17 points over the three minutes and 40 second run that cut the lead to 47-38.
Although the Saints would trim the advantage to nine once more, they would get no closer.
Ryan Rossiter scored 12 points and had a game-high 14 rebounds for the Saints. He is now averaging a double-double through the first three games.
Edwin Ubiles scored 14 points for Siena, most coming on mid-range jumpers.
The Saints out-scored Tennessee 37-31 in the second half and limited the Vols to just 33% shooting.
Tyler Smith scored 14 points despite first half foul trouble and JP Prince had 11 to round out Tennessee's double-digit scorers.
Siena moves on to face Wichita State game Friday at 10:30 in the consolation bracket.
