LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena swimming and diving lost to Vermont 145-98 in a non-conference swim meet Saturday afternoon at Union College. Sophomore Brittany Pavolko won two individual events including the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard backstroke while sophomore Molly Chamberlain and senior captain Rachel McShane won the 100 yard freestyle and 50 yard freestyle respectively. The Saints drop to 1-3 while the Catamounts improve to 4-1-1.
"The girls did really well today," said head coach Greg Brown. "We lost to a very good team. I was impressed with Brittany Pavolko who won two events and surpassed expectations in the 100 back."
Pavolko won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.07 and the 100 back in 59.86. Chamberlain won the 100 free with a time of 54.74 and McShane took the 50 free by edging out the field in 25.81.
"Both races [100 free and 50 free] were to the wall," said Brown. "Rachel swam a flawless race and touched out some great swimmers."
Freshman Elizabeth Rice led the Saints in both diving events. Overall, she earned first place in the 1M event with 225.66 points and second place in the 3M with 187.79 points. Vermont was led by Kate Weaver who won the 200 free and swam the first leg of the 400 medley relay and 200 free relay, taking first place in both events.
"We haven't swam in our pool in over a week," said Brown. "So I was very proud of them today. They showed a lot of character."
The Saints return for a tri-meet at home against Manhattan and Loyola on Saturday at 3 p.m.
