Alex Franklin had career highs with 30 points and 18 rebounds and Siena never trailed in a 93-70 BracketBusters win over WAC leader Boise State at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho Saturday night. Edwin Ubiles added 22 points and Kenny Hasbrouck had 19 as Siena clicked on all cylinders and won with stunning ease before 5,982 fans and a national audience on ESPN360.com.
Franklin had a double-double by halftime, posting 19 points and 10 boards in the first 20 minutes as Siena carried a 45-40 lead to the locker room. In the second half, Siena's defense stole the show, limiting the high-powered Broncos to just 30 points and 41% shooting.
Siena used a 12-2 run to break the game open mid-way through the second half - a spurt that culminated with a Ubiles layup that made the score 74-55 with 8:42 left.
Ubiles electrified the crowd with a pair of dunks earlier in the half - the second a reverse jam off a Hasbrouck feed in transition.
Ronald Moore had nine assists and just one turnover in a masterful performance at the point. Siena had just nine turnovers and forced 20 with nine steals from its pressure defense that improved as the game went on.
Perhaps the most startling stat was the rebounding differential. Siena held a 44-36 edge on the glass, thanks in large part to Franklin's dominance inside.
The Saints also attempted 76 field goals - making 36 (47%) and shot 17-24 from the free throw line. By contrast, Boise made just 25 of 59 field goals and shot 12-22 from the line.
Matt nelson led the Broncos with 20 points and seven rebounds. Leading scorer Reggie Larry had just eight points.
Siena returns to MAAC action Friday night when it hosts Niagara in a battle of first place teams at Times Union Center. The regular-season concludes Sunday at Saint Peter's.
