Loudonville, N.Y. - The Siena men's golf opened their 2008 spring season placing sixth at the Lonnie Barton Memorial Invitational held in Savannah, Ga. Junior co-captain Dan Abbondandolo picked up right where he left off in the fall, capturing the individual crown with a 1-under par 143 over the two rounds of competition.
Towson University won the overall title, shooting a +21 score of 597 over the two days, while Longwood University finished second at +33. The Saints shot 646 (+70) as a team, finishing sixth in the nine team field.
Abbondandolo, who won two of the four fall invitationals in which both he and the team competed, shot a -4 over the final seven holes to finish in a first place tie with Towson's Chris Scialo. Abbondandolo however was declared the winner based on having a better final round score.
Siena returns to action for the Lacrosse Collegiate Invitational which takes place the weekend of March 29-30 in Graysonville, Md.
