Loudonville, N.Y. - Saint Peter's won all three doubles matches as the fifth seeded Peacocks topped the fourth seeded Siena men's tennis team 4-3 this afternoon in the MAAC Men's Tennis Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Jeremy Deuel, Nick Rutherford and Jose Loren accounted for the Saints' three victories in singles play.
Deuel concluded his dominant season with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 over the Peacocks' Serge Igel in top singles. Rutherford followed that up in the #2 singles with a marathon 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 victory over Peter Czajka. Loren also won a hotly contested battle, taking a three set victory 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 over Jake Baranowski.
The Peacocks captured wins in the other three singles matches to tie the event heading into double competition. Saint Peter's swept the three matches however to earn the decisive point and capture the win to advance.
The Peacocks will now take on top-seed Marist in the next round. The Red Foxes easily dispatched of #8 seed Manhattan, 6-1 earlier in the day.
