Sept. 12, 2008

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's soccer was shutout by St. Francis (N.Y.) 3-0 Thursday night in Brooklyn, N.Y. John Sallhag scored the eventual game-winner in the 13th minute on a rebound from a penalty kick. Siena drops to 1-3 this season.

The penalty kick was awarded to St. Francis after Siena's Steve Covino took down Jeverton De Lorenzi in the Saints' box. Sallhag's PK was stopped by sophomore goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny but the rebound came right back to Sallhag who put it in the empty net for the 1-0 lead.

St. Francis (3-1-1) added to their lead in the 64th minute on a Pontus Warner goal. Sallhag hit a long service to De Lorenzi at the near post who passed it across the goal mouth to Warner for the touch in.

In the 88th minute, Alex Silaco hit a 20-yard shot which was saved by Skonieczny, but the rebound went right to Giuseppe Buscemi who shot it in the goal.

The Terriers outshot the Saints 17-4 in the game. Skonieczny made seven saves in the defeat while St. Francis goalkeeper Chris Antonio earned the shutout making one save.

The Saints return to action Friday September 19 when they host Quinnipiac at 4 p.m.
