Final Round Results
The Siena men's golf team concluded its fall season opening weekend by finishing fifth at the Navy Invitational completed this afternoon at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md. Senior co-captain Dan Abbondandolo continued his strong success, placing third overall individually.
The Saints entered the final day in second place just nine strokes behind leader George Washington, but the Green and Gold were surpassed by several teams which had solid final rounds.
The Colonials held on to win wire to wire, placing nine strokes ahead of second place Delaware. Saint Joseph's and the host Midshipmen were third and fourth respectively, with Siena finishing 19 strokes off the overall lead.
Abbondandolo meanwhile narrowly missed a chance at his fourth individual victory in the past year. The senior shot a solid final round of 71 for a two round score of 140. George Washington's Lewis Sturdy (138) held on to capture the individual trophy, while Delaware's Colin Smith (139) placed just a stroke ahead of Abbondandolo.
Fellow co-captain James Gifford (148) was second amongst Siena competitors and tied for 18th overall. Don DeNyse III (150), Justin Deitz (153) and Jeffrey Smith (174) rounded out the Siena contingent.
The Saints are off for the next two weeks before hitting the links for their next fall competition on the weekend of Sept. 27. Siena will travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to square off in the Cornell Invitational.
