Final Stats
Malia Marquardt and Bryn Porter each had 15 kills for BYU which remained perfect on the season with a 3-1 win over Siena in the opening match of the Texas A&M Invitational Friday night in College Station, Texas. Brianne Bobo led the Saints with eight kills.
Siena took the second set from the Cougars 26-24 after posting a .394 attack percentage. For the match the Saints managed just a .075 attack percentage. BYU posted convincing 25-13 and 25-9 wins in the first and third sets respectively, and held on for a 25-20 triumph in the decisive fourth set.
Siena continued to shuffle its lineup in search for a reliable outside presence. Kau'i Robello and sophomore Amanda Begin joined Bobo with the most chances on Friday. Begin contributed six kills. Setter April London had a double-double with 27 assists and a team-high 12 digs. Robello had seven kills and added 11 digs in her best effort of the season.
Middle hitter Burgandy McCurty had seven kills but was well contained by the Cougar defense
BYU is now 4-0 on the year. They featured a balanced attack with four players reaching double figure kills. Kayla Walker and Rachel Dyer each had 10 kills to join Marquardt and Porter.
The Saints were competitive in digs, trailing just 63-53, but BYU dominated the net posting a 12-5 advantage in blocks.
Begin had three of Siena's six service aces.
Siena falls to 3-0 on the year. They take on the host Aggies and American University Saturday.
