LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman forward Matthew Kadoch came off the bench and scored his first career goal in the 70th minute, but Fairfield's Jack Cleverley tied the game with five minutes remaining to earn a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon. The Saints were defeated by Fairfield in the MAAC Tournament semifinals last season.

Fairfield (5-4-1, 1-0-1) outshot Siena (5-5-2, 0-1-1) 24-11 but freshman goalkeeper Phil Chabot made big save after big save and kept his team even until the Saints pulled ahead. In the 70th minute, freshman midfielder Sindre Ek dribbled the ball along the endline and played it across the goal to Kadoch who touched it in the empty net. It was Siena's first and only shot on goal.

Fairfield pressured Siena heavily in the final 20 minutes of regulation. In the 74th minute, Erik Ilisije shrugged off a Siena defender and was in all alone on the right side from nine yards away. He ripped a low shot, but Chabot smothered it. In the 81st minute, Matt Ernst was sent in and in one motion slid and shot the ball. Chabot went down and made the save. With five minutes left, Fairfield finally broke through. Todd Rutledge beat his defender and sent a cross into the box. Cleverley headed it into the goal at the near post.

Michael Eager had the first of two quality scoring chances in overtime. With less than 90 seconds remaining in the first overtime, he fired a shot that was saved by Chabot. With two minutes left in the second overtime, a Siena defender passed back to Chabot, but the ball was wide of the keeper and he had to slide just to get a piece of it. The ball deflected off him and spun off to the left side of the box. Ilisije reached the ball as Chabot was running back to his goal line. Ilisije sent his shot high over the crossbar.

Chabot (3-4-2) finished with 11 saves.

Siena returns to action this Friday when it plays at Saint Peter's. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
