Dec. 13, 2009

Final Stats

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Undefeated James Madison led wire-to-wire, defeating Siena women's basketball 85-57 in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center. The Dukes, who just defeated No. 14 Virginia last Sunday, are receiving votes in both polls. JMU scored 46 points in the paint and 31 points off 20 Siena turnovers.

The Saints (1-7) got off to a rough start as senior point guard Merrick Volpe picked up two personal fouls in the first 20 seconds of the game. James Madison (7-0) scored the game's first seven points and built a 16-5 lead in the first 5 ½ minutes. The Dukes shot 45.7% from the field in the first half and capitalized on 11 Siena turnovers for 15 points.

Siena went to junior forward Serena Moore early and often. She beat defenders with her athleticism and worked for high percentage shots, but couldn't get them to fall (2-of-7 from the field). Moore led the team with eight points at halftime.

JMU led 40-28 at the half.

The Saints stayed in the game with the 3-ball, hitting 11-of-22 (50%) attempts in the game.

But JMU outscored Siena 46-10 in the paint and 31-5 off turnovers. The Dukes had 20 assists to six turnovers while Siena had 11 to 20.

Tarik Hislop led JMU with 16 points and 10 assists. JMU played without Dawn Evans who ranks second in the nation in scoring (26.5 ppg).

Senior guard Allie Lindemann led the Saints with 12 points. All four of her field goals were made from beyond the 3-point line. Moore finished with nine points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Senior forward Sarah Fullmer came off the bench to score 11 points and pull down eight rebounds.

The Saints have 16 days off for final exams and the holidays before their next game, the non-conference finale. They will host Sacred Heart on December 30 at 7 p.m.
