Siena Celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena will celebrate the 23rd annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the women's basketball game tonight. Women's soccer player Cara Riley, women's lacrosse player Lindsey Rosecrans and field hockey player Andrea Caso will be honored for their positive impact in the community through sports. All 11 Siena women's sports will be recognized at halftime.

Riley (Berlin, Conn.), a sophomore midfielder, was third on the team with 14 points this past season with five goals and four assists. She has a 3.75 cumulative GPA and has coached at the Select Oakwood Soccer Academy, Berlin Youth Soccer Association's U12 and U14 teams and served as an instructor for Berlin Youth Soccer's Mini-Kickers and Nutmeg Leagues. She also works at Siena soccer summer camps.

Rosecrans (Niskayuna, N.Y.), a senior attack, has 88 career points on 73 goals and 15 assists. She has a 3.18 cumulative GPA and has been involved with various community programs. Lindsey is the head coach and founder for the Town of Niskayuna Lacrosse Camp and has coached at several other lacrosse camps. She's completed internships with Head Start Kids in Albany and with the Niskayuna high school counseling department. She has also served as an orientation leader and a freshman mentor.

Caso (Carmel, N.Y.), a junior forward, has three goals and one assist in her career. She has a 3.33 cumulative GPA and has coached Carmel high school during winter and summer leagues as well as the Brewster Field Hockey Camp.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is celebrated in all 50 states with community-based events, award ceremonies, and activities honoring the achievements and encouraging participation of girls and women in sports. The U.S. Congress chartered this celebration in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation of all girls and women.
