Over 130 golfers enjoyed a great afternoon of golf and a post-round reception, dinner and auction at the annual Saints Alive! Shootout Monday, June 22 at Shaker Ridge Country Club in Loudonville for the benefit of Siena sports medicine. The foursome of Steve Obermayer, John Sullivan, Tim Tyrell and John Owens took home the top prize as the Shootout winners.
The golf was accented by several Siena "celebrity" appearances, as golfers had the opportunity to best men's basketball fan favorite Josh Duell's tee-shot at the par-3 fourth, or purchase a drive from one of Siena's top men's golfers, Don DeNyse III and Justin Deitz, or a fairway shot from women's golfer Bridget Carr. Siena's coaches were on hand at each hole to greet golfers and represent their sports along with several student-athletes in what has become the department's most popular annual fund-raising event.
The top 17 teams (representing each of Siena's sports teams) competed in a cut-throat shootout at the conclusion of regular play. Obermayer's foursome won a three-team sudden death shootout to secure the victory. The foursome, representing softball, was crowned the Shootout winners. As a result, the softball program had $1,000 added to its budget.
Following the shootout, golfers enjoyed a cocktail hour and buffet dinner that included a silent and live auction. Several exclusive prizes, including two separate one-week stays in a Myrtle Beach, S.C. condo, a Stratton Vermont condo stay with lift tickets as well as a Day at the Races in Saratoga that included corporate box and lunch for five were included in the live auction.
The on-going silent auction also prompted spirited rivalry among the golfers, as everything from Yankees and Red Sox tickets, to two nights lodging for 2 at the famed Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in Lake Placid, N.Y. were on the auction block.
Other winners included: Low Gross Winners: Mel Wilcove, Al Stranahan, Les Apple and Mel Levy. Net Winners were John Murray, Mickey Mahoney, Jack Murray, Kevin Tully. The winners of the Closest To Pin contest were Jack Murray, Steve Hart and Mickey Mahoney and Eric Minkiewicz and Mary Pat Devine boasted the Longest Drive: Eric Minkiewicz and Mary Pat Devine and Will Banks had the straightest drive. George Bruda '50 won the Delta Raffle claiming two tickets anywhere Delta Airlines flies within the contiguous United States.
The event was a soaring success thanks to the continued commitment of Siena's corporate partners, namely: Merrill Lynch, Sodexo, Coldwell Banker Prime Properties, Rose & Kiernan, Inc., Executive Cleaning Services of Albany, Inc., Proforma, Teal Becker & Chiaramonte CPA's, P.C., Pearl Carroll Associates, Callanan Industries, Inc., AFSCO Fence, KPMG and the generosity of Ilene and Chip Stein.
