Montreal tallied goals in the 27th and 83rd minutes to defeat Siena women's soccer 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the TD Bank Classic in Burlington, Vt. The Saints were outshot 15-2 in the game.
According to NCAA rules, the game's statistics and result will not count towards Siena's records. The NCAA would only count a game against a Canadian team if that team played more than 50% of its contests in that sport again U.S. four-year (two-year if senior), degree-granting institutions.
Montreal took a 1-0 lead on Laverdiere's chip shot over Siena goalkeeper Liz Barna. Barna made three saves in the first half and five in the game. Mercier scored an insurance goal late in the game off a free kick.
Siena lost both games of the TD Bank Classic and was outshot a combined 28-8. Juniors Cara Riley and Samantha Butzke were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
The Saints return to Loudonville for the home opener next Sunday when they host New Hampshire at 2 p.m. Siena had a 7-1-2 record at home last season.
