Navy Round 1 Results 
Siena freshman David Gushee fired a +3 round of 74 in his collegiate debut to lead the men's golf team through the first 18 holes of competition at the 16th Annual Navy Fall Golf Classic held at the Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md. Gushee and the Saints stand tied with Saint Francis (Pa.) for 11th overall in the 17-team field.
The host Midshipmen, looking to win a record fourth Navy Fall Classic title, lead the field with a team score of 279 through the first round of a 36-hole competition. Northwestern is a close second, just three shots off the pace.
Navy's Ben Hayes shot a -4 round of 67 to hold the overall individual lead heading into the clubhouse.
The Saints shot a team score of 303 on Saturday, but remain in contention amongst a crowded field.
Gushee, a native of Gorham, Maine, fired a 36 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine on the par 71 course. Gushee, who stands tied for 33rd overall, placed one stroke ahead of teammate Don DeNyse III (75) and two shots better than Justin Deitz and Nick Miller to lead a balanced attack.
The second and final round, which includes 18 more holes, begins Sunday morning with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.
