Keenan First Round Results
The Siena men's golf team stands in a three-way tie for sixth overall following the first round of the Leo Keenan Invitational hosted by St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. The Saints, which shot a team score of 300, are tied entering Monday's final 18 holes with Cornell and MAAC rival Niagara in a tight battle for the championship.
Binghamton (288) leads the field following play Saturday, two shots ahead of the host Bonnies. But the invitational is wide open as the top eight teams are separated by just 12 strokes in what has been so far a competitive 13-team field.
Junior Don DeNyse III and sophomore Justin Deitz lead the Saints through the first 18 holes with +4 rounds of 74. The duo is tied for 13th overall, trailing clubhouse leader Jake Katz of Binghamton, whose first round score of 68 is tied for the fourth lowest through the first round of play in the Invitational's history.
Nick Miller (76) Jeff Smith (76) and John Van Vranken (85) all struggled on the front-nine, but rebounded nicely to each shoot at least eight strokes better on the back-nine.
The final round of the Keenan Invitational tees off Monday morning.
