Volleyball Takes Down Iona

Siena dropped the first set 29-27 but rallied to win the next three convincingly to post a 3-1 road MAAC victory Saturday in New Rochelle. Aubrey Bobo led all players with 27 kills, 21 digs and a .519 attack percentage.

Iona jumped out to a 23-17 lead in the first set before Siena made a ferocious run, and eventually took a 25-24 lead. The Gaels shook off the rally and earned a 29-27 win following consecutive Siena attack errors.

The Saints responded decisively winning the second set 25-20, the third 25-16 and the fourth 25-17.

In addition to Bobo, Burgandy McCurty had a big double-double with 24 kills and 11 digs. Freshman setter Sarah Sivertson had 53 assists and eight digs, senior captain Kau'i Robello had 19 digs and libero Lesli Akeo added 16.

Rachel Whitten led Iona with 11 kills and Sarah Wiener added 10.

The Saints will try to open MAAC play 4-0 and even their season record at 5-5 when they host Marist at 2 p.m. Sunday.
