Final Standings
Junior Justin Deitz brought home the first individual victory by a Saint men's golfer in over two years Tuesday, capturing the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in emphatic fashion.
Deitz led by a single stroke after scores of 72 and 70 in the first two rounds. He completed his stellar tournament with a one-under-par 71 in the third and final round of competition. Deitz's three-under-par total of 213 was six shots lower than that of the second-place finisher, Connecticut's Jeb Buchanan. This is the first individual win by a Siena men's golfer since Dan Abbondandolo won the rain-shortened Cornell Invitational in September of 2008.
Also making a mark on the tournament for the Saints was sophomore Jess Esposito, whose rounds of 75, 73, and 77 put him in a tie for tenth. Siena finished seventh in the team standings at 914, nineteen shots behind Iona College, who won with a score of 895.
This tournament was the final one of the fall for Siena, who resumes play in the spring of 2011.
