LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Paced by three-event winners Caitlyn Biagioli and Katie Ness, Siena's swimming and diving team won their sixth straight meet Saturday, topping Sacred Heart 129-80. Saint swimmers won all but one event on the afternoon.
Ness and Biagioli first swam on opposite ends of the victorious 200 medley relay team, which also featured sophomores Britney Anderer and Kaela Bjornberg. Ness threatened the pool record in the 50 free with a time of :24.60, less than half a second off the Siena Swim Center standard, and also led off the meet-capping 200 free relay team. Meanwhile, Biagioli took down the 400 IM and 200 back.
Other multiple-event winners for Siena (6-2) included seniors Brittany Pavolko and Molly Chamberlain, junior diver Elizabeth Rice (who swept the one and three-meter events for her eleventh and twelfth wins of the season), and the group of Anderer and Bjornberg. Anderer was also part of the 200 free relay team, while Bjornberg took first in the 200 breast.
Also making waves was senior Nicole Hagi, who displayed remarkable endurance swimming three grueling events in one day. She won the 500 free, and also finished second in both the 1000 free and the 400 IM.
"To do the 1000, 500, and 400 IM in one dual meet is amazing," head coach Paul Kueterman said. "It shows that the hard work she's put in is really paying off for her."
Siena is now off for a month, but will return to action in a January 15th quad meet in Smithfield, Rhode Island, where they'll face Bryant, St. Francis (N.Y.), and NJIT.
