Feb. 20, 2010

Complete Results

The Siena swimming and diving team completed its second best MAAC Championships finish ever on Saturday, placing third overall at the 2010 MAAC Championships in Baltimore, Md. Additionally, head coach Greg Brown was named MAAC Coach of the Year after also guiding the Saints to a program-record 10 wins.

"This was a special season," reflected Brown. "These ladies earned every bit of what they got today. I'd also like to say that I really believe that today we announced our presence in the MAAC and we are going to be a swimming power in this conference for years to come."

Siena totaled 467 points over the three-day meet, finishing only second to the 2003 squad which placed second overall at the MAAC Championships. Marist won the championship with 921 points, followed by Rider (596.50), Siena, Loyola (459), Iona (343), Niagara (316), Fairfield (277), Canisius (175.50), Saint Peter's (110) and Manhattan (55).

On the final day, Siena continued to smash school records, setting five more in the process. They included Molly Chamberlain who finished second overall in the 100 free (:51.64), Kaela Bjornberg who finished third in the 200 breast (2:24.12), Brittany Pavolko who was sixth in the 200 fly (2:09.59), Caitlyn Biagioli who was ninth in the 200 back (2:07.86) and the team of Biagioli, Chamberlain, Katie Ness, and Britney Anderer which finished third in the 400 free (3:30.45).

On his being named MAAC Coach of the Year, Brown added, "This was certainly a very humbling experience and I am very honored that my peers in the MAAC felt that I deserved this award."

While the conference season has ended, the Saints do have one more meet left as they will compete for a second straight year in the postseason ECAC Championships. The three-day event runs from Friday through Sunday in Pittsburgh, Pa.
