Over 130 golfers enjoyed a great afternoon of golf and a post-round reception and auction at the annual Saints Alive! Shootout Monday, June 21 at Shaker Ridge Country Club in Loudonville to benefit Siena athletics and the sports medicine department.
The golf was accented by several Siena "celebrity" appearances, as golfers had the opportunity to best Men's Basketball Head Coach Mitch Buonaguro's tee-shot at the par-3 fourth, or purchase a drive from one of Siena's top men's golfers or a fairway shot from women's golfer Catherine Shomo.
Siena's coaches were on hand at each hole to greet golfers and represent their sports along with several student-athletes in what has become the department's most popular annual fund-raising event.
The top 17 teams (representing each of Siena's sports teams) competed in a cut-throat shootout at the conclusion of regular play. The foursome, representing field hockey was crowned the Shootout winners. As a result, the field hockey program will have additional funds added to its operating budget.
Following the shootout, golfers enjoyed a cocktail hour and buffet that included a silent and live auction. Several exclusive prizes, including two separate one-week stays in a Myrtle Beach, S.C. condo, a Stratton Vermont condo stay with ski shop credit as well as a round of gold with Buonaguro, which registered the highest bid.
The on-going silent auction also prompted spirited rivalry among the golfers, as everything from Yankees and Red Sox tickets, to local theater packages drew high bids.
The Tournament was played under brilliant sunshine with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
