The Siena men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season in emphatic fashion Saturday afternoon, drilling Rider 7-0 in the MAAC opener for both schools. Dylan Roberts fended off a stern challenge from Rollie Malfitano 7-6 and 7-6 at top singles to set the tone for the match.
The Saints picked up the doubles point by claiming two of the three matches, taking a 1-0 lead into singles play. Peter Collins and Alex Burbine won convincingly at top doubles, 8-1, and Jarrett Siwiec and Vik Kadaba snuck past Drew Laverty and Steve Brand 9-7 at the second spot to secure the point.
Collins, Burbine and Siwiec each won their singles matches as well. Freshmen Matthew Funiciello and Darren Reich were both impressive at the bottom of the rotation, earning easy straight set wins.
The Saints return to action tomorrow when they host Hofstra in Schenectady's Central Park.
