ECAC Final Results
Siena men's golf posted the lowest team score of the day Saturday at the ECAC Division I Championships, and earned a third-place finish in the 10-team event as a result. The Saints had two golfers finish in the top five, and no participant shot worse than 79 in the tournament's second round.
Senior Justin Deitz finished with a flourish, as his second-round 69 was the low score of the day at Twisted Dunes Country Club. He finished in sole possession of second place, just one shot behind individual medalist Kevin Ellison of Mount St. Mary's.
Additionally, freshman Louis Walsh finished an eye-catching tournament with a day-two 73. Siena's top scorer in round one finished tied for fourth, five shots off the winner. Saturday also saw 73's from juniors John Van Vranken and David Gushee, the latter of whom improved ten shots from Friday to Saturday.
As a squad, the Saints finished 16 shots behind Mount St. Mary's, who also took home the team championship, and just one shot back of second-place Saint Peter's. Only Mount St. Mary's had more top-five finishers than Siena, and the Green and Gold's second-round score of 288, as mentioned, was the lowest of the day.
The Saints return to the course at the Connecticut Cup, which begins on October 10. Deitz earned medalist honors at last year's renewal, the first individual win by a Siena golfer in an event in two years.
