Running for the first time this season in the Capital Region, Siena Cross Country had one of its finest showings despite competing without several of its top runners. The men's team ran 12th and the women 19th at the 45th UAlbany Invitational in the squads' final tune-up before the MAAC Championships.

Sophomore Brendan Gregg led the men for the second time in four races this fall, running the 8K course in a time of 26:49.3. Freshman Nick Grudev also ran strong, finishing just nine seconds behind Gregg as the Saints' finished 12th out of 21 teams while placing ahead of conference rival Niagara.

The men also narrowly missed finishing as the top MAAC school of the four competing, as they placed just barely behind both Canisius (10th) and Marist (11th).

Meanwhile sophomore Samantha D'Amato broke 20 minutes in the women's 5K. She led the Saints with a time of 19:49.2, finishing just ahead of teammate Chelsea Needham (20:02.2).

The men and women return to the course for the MAAC Championships Oct. 28 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
