Siena Builds Reputation

LOUDONVILLE -- When Siena men's basketball coach Mitch Buonaguro speaks to recruits, he often shows diagrams and artist renderings that offer a glimpse of the athletic department's future.

A 13,000 square foot basketball wing. State-of-the-art locker rooms. A completely renovated practice gym.

"I was impressed," said Richard Audu, a recruit from Ontario, Canada, who committed to play for Siena next season. "The stuff that's there right now, I liked it a lot. To know they're putting more and it's going to be better, that says something."

What is says is this: Siena may be a private school of just 2,900 undergraduates, but in the wake of three trips to the NCAA men's basketball tournament, it is making a major investment in being a player on the national college sports landscape.
