Siena sophomore runners Ryan Egan and Samantha D'Amato led the way for the Saints' Saturday in cross country's season opening race in the Bryant University Nassaney Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. Egan ran to an 18th place finish on the men's side, while D'Amato placed 55th in the women's 5K.
Egan ran in a time of 15:54.91 to finish as the Saints' top runner in the men's 5K. Brendan Gregg (35th - 16:31.74), Nick Grudev (40th - 16:35.36) and Ian Donnelly (44th - 16:40.92) also ran well in finishing in the top half of the 97-runner field.
D'Amato set the pace for the Siena women, finishing with a time of 20:31.70. Juniors Chrissy DelSanto (21:14.17) and Lia Gizzarelli (21:17.93) finished close behind.
The Saints return to the course Saturday for the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
