Swimming and Diving Finishes Seventh at MAAC Championships

Siena swimming and diving finished seventh at the 2012 MAAC Championships despite a history-making day Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y. Siena swimmers notched four top-eight finishes, and Kaela Bjornberg set the second new school record of the weekend while finishing second in the 200 breast.

Bjornberg clocked in at 2:20.77, breaking her own record set last year. In doing so, she became the first Siena swimmer to break the 2:21 barrier in the event. The runner-up finish completed a stellar weekend for the junior, who also finished third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 100 breast on Friday.

Other performances of note included Siena's 400 free relay team of Jacque Medina, Dana Tricarico, Amanda York, and Shannon Love finishing sixth in 3:34.98, Love finishing seventh in the 100 free in :53.31, and Medina checking in eighth in the grueling 1,650 free with a time of 17:36.68. Additionally, York finished 10th in the 200 fly in 2:08.92, and Tricarico finished 14th in the 100 free in :54.39.

Siena ended the three-day event with 261.5 points, while Marist captured the team title with 813.5. Rider finished second with 657.5, followed by Loyola (509), Iona (359), Canisius (331.5), Fairfield (326), Siena, Niagara (238), Saint Peter's (211), and Manhattan (74).
