Saints Settle for Tie at Quinnipiac

Sept. 25, 2013

Box Score

Siena Women's Soccer earned its first conference point, playing new MAAC member Quinnipiac to a 1-1 draw Wednesday afternoon in Hamden, Conn. Both goals came late in the second half on penalty kicks.

The teams combined for three second half penalty kicks. Brittany Pfaff had a chance to put Siena (4-5-1, 0-1-1) on top first in the 62 minute, but Quinnipiac's (1-4-2, 1-0-1) Natalia Grodzki dove to her right to rob her and keep the match scoreless.

The Saints would not miss a second chance as freshman Tara Sobierajski converted a 76th minute penalty kick of her own to give Siena a late lead. Siena controlled the second half tempo and seemed poised to put the match away before an unfortunate turn of events.

With six minutes remaining in regulation, keeper Taylor Booth came off her line and was run into by a Bobcats attacker. However, Booth was carded and a penalty kick was awarded to Quinnipiac, leading to Aine McKeever's match-tying tally.

After being out-shot 6-1 and out-cornered 5-0 in the first half, Siena out-shot Quinnipiac 9-4 the rest of the way, but could not break through for the winning tally.

Booth made four saves for the Saints which improved to 4-0-1 in their past five matches against Quinnipiac. Grodzki stopped seven shots for the Bobcats.

Siena returns to Loudonville for its MAAC home opener Saturday vs. Saint Peter's at 1 p.m.
