The Siena Women's Basketball team kept busy over winter break, not only on the court but off it as well. Recently the Saints volunteered locally with the SAFE program and served those in need at a soup kitchen in Albany.
On Jan. 11, the Saints visited Sports Are for Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit organization that provides an environment which allows people with special needs to build self-esteem, confidence, and friendships through sports by providing opportunities to socialize, compete, and exercise both their motor and life skills.
The Saints visited SAFE for three hours, participating in a series of basketball drills and games with the children, while also holding a t-shirt giveaway and poster signing session.
On Monday the Saints visited the Sr. Maureen Joyce Center in Albany. The team prepared and served lunch that afternoon to those in need.
The Saints' community service ventures are part of Siena Athletics' BlueShield of Northeastern New York "Saints in the Community" program. Earlier this month the Saints, along with members of the men's basketball team, participated in the Adopt-A-School program.
