Oct. 10, 2014 Day One Results
Siena Swimming and Diving began their season Friday, competing in the Northeast Catholic Invite. Megan Grace highlighted the first day for the Saints finishing second in the 500-meter free, picking up 17 points for the team.
Grace swam a 5:19.78, finishing just three seconds behind Amanda Beier from Boston College. Jacque Medina, Amanda Podczerwinski and Caroline Powell also competed in the 500-meeter free, finishing in 19th, 29th, and 36th place respectively.
The Saints participated in five events on the day, finishing solidly in all. In the 200-yard free relay, the team of Maggie Fletcher, Emily Carideo, Colleen McDonough and Shannon Love finished seventh out of 18 teams with a time of 1:44.04.
Carideo led the way for the Saints in the 200-yard IM, swimming a 2:20.31. Love scored 11 points for Siena in the 50-yard free, finishing in eighth place after swimming a 25.33.
The Saints picked up 22 more points in the 400-yard Medley Relay, after the team of Grace, Katherine Canavan, Kelsey Helin and Amanda York swam a 4:41.66 finishing in ninth.
"It was good to get back to competing against other teams," said head coach Paul Kueterman. "We can carry our races over to tomorrow which should be a strong day for the team."
Last year the Saints finished fifth in the Invite. They will get an early start on their potentially strong day, with races set to begin at 8 am.
