Dec. 27, 2014
As we count down the final days of the year, we take a look back at the top Siena Athletics' moments of 2014. Over the final 10 days of the year we will count down the Top-10 Moments of 2014, continuing today with Moment #5.
The Moment
May 3 - Top seeded Siena Lacrosse led from start to finish in a convincing 11-7 win over No. 2 seed and Tournament host Marist in the MAAC Championship Game. MAAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Tommy Cordts made 13 saves and Jordan Barlow and Colin Clive each netted hat tricks for the Saints which captured their third title in six seasons.
Why We Loved It
After suffering heartbreaking one-goal losses in the MAAC Championship Game each of the previous two years, the third time was the charm for the Saints. Siena wasted no time in making a statement early, scoring the first two goals en route to a 6-1 lead at the half and never looked back in securing the program's third NCAA Tournament Appearance.
Behind the Scenes
Road warriors all season long, Siena had to win its MAAC Championship in a true road game despite being the top-seed. The Saints led all Division I programs playing 12 true road games during the 2014 season and their seven wins were tied for the second most nationally.
Did You Know?
Siena made its sixth consecutive appearance in the MAAC Championship Game and won its third title (2009, 2011, 2014). Each of Siena's three losses were all by one-goal and were decided in the final two minutes of regulation or overtime.
Quotable
"You've tasted it, and then you had two years of disappointment. So you know how good it can feel. It's just an incredible feeling." Senior attackman Colin Clive
