LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Basketball hosts its 14th Annual #PinkZone Game presented by Berkshire Bank when the Saints battle Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. at the ARC. Gameday Central coverage begins with the Berkshire Bank Pregame Show at 6:30 p.m. locally on WVCR 88.3 FM "The Saint" and online at SienaAllAccess.com.
The Pink Zone Game, which seeks to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research, has raised over $100,000 for the Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB!) since its inception.
The Saints once again surpassed their goal last year raising $30,037 for CRAAB! and are looking to again eclipse $30,000. In all the Siena Women's Basketball program, along with the generous community support, has raised a total of $105,745 for CRAAB!
Just before tip-off the Saints will hold a special survivors recognition, escorting local breast cancer survivors onto the court and recognizing their courageous battles against the disease.
Siena players will once again wear custom made pink uniforms and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in an attempt to "Pink Out" the ARC. Additionally, the first 500 fans in attendance will receive pink pom poms.
The Saints will also recognize three exceptional team players who have made a difference in the Capital Region's battle against breast cancer. The 2014 "Power Up the Pink" Awardees are Tracy Pitcher, the Executive Director of St. Paul's Center, Siena College Sodexho Catering Manager Norm Kvam and Dr. Shannon O'Neill, the Director of Siena College's Sr. Thea Bowman Center for Women.
CRAAB! will have vendors and displays set up around the gym with vital information on the fight against breast cancer and there will also be a silent auction and raffle items.
Children are encouraged to take part in the Patricia Brown Camp Scholarship Sign Competition. The competition is open to kids age 6-17 who create a poster using an acrostic of either the word CRAAB or SAINTS and have it relate to breast cancer awareness. The most creative and well-designed sign will be announced at halftime and will win a Siena Summer Sports Camps Scholarship (restrictions apply).
Tickets to the Pink Zone game are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for children and FREE for Siena College students (with valid ID) and Generation S members. Group tickets (10 or more) are $6 for adults and $3 for children and groups that wish to attend the game should contact Marketing Manager and Siena Athletics Pink Zone Coordinator Laura Menges for more details. The Saints (7-18, 2-14) are also opening a three-game homestand tonight, marking the team's final three home games of the year. Quinnipiac (16-10, 11-5) has won eight of its last 10 games and won the first-ever meeting between the programs 70-49 last month in Hamden, Conn., ending the game on a 21-4 run.
