LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Basketball freshman forward Meghan Donohue has been named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. The Mogadore, Ohio native was one of five selections and is thus eligible to be named the MAAC Rookie of the Year.
Donohue becomes Siena's 12th MAAC All-Rookie Team selection and the first in eight years. She is joined on the All-Rookie Team by Canisius' Lauren D'Hont, Monmouth's Helena Kurt, Niagara's Victoria Rampado and Rider's Julia Duggan. The 2013-14 MAAC Rookie of the Year will be announced on Friday at 5 p.m. at the MAAC Postseason Awards Show located at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Donohue leads all MAAC freshmen in field goal percentage (50.8%) and offensive rebounding (2.3) which rank fourth and seventh overall in the conference respectively. Her 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds both rank second amongst all conference rookies.
A three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, Donohue has started all 29 games this season posting nine double digit scoring efforts and two double-doubles. Her three MAAC Rookie of the Week awards and 247 points scored are the most by a Siena freshman since recent Hall of Fame inductee Laura (Menty) Menges '08 was a six-time MAAC Rookie of the Week and scored 391 points in being named the conference's Rookie of the Year during the 2004-05 season.
Donohue and the Saints are the No. 10 seed in this week's MAAC Championships in Springfield, Mass. The Saints face seventh seeded Manhattan at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in First Round action at the MassMutual Center.
