Final Stats

Junior captain Meghann Wright posted a match-high 19 kills and senior captain Jacqueline Skeen added a season-high 12 as Siena Volleyball picked up a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24) at Iona. Wright added 11 digs to post her second double-double in three MAAC matches for the Saints which have won three of four after losing nine of ten to start the year.

Sophomore setter Haley Howell also tallied a double-double for the Saints (4-10, 2-1), matching her season-highs in both assists (42) and digs (13).

Siena trailed 21-19 in what would be the decisive fourth set, but scored five of the next six points to set up set point. The Gaels (4-10, 1-2) fought off two set points to tie the match one final time at 24-all, but committed an error on their next attack and the combination of Howell and freshman middle Samantha Pethokoukis blocked the ensuing attack to capture both match and set point.

Siena out-blocked the Gaels 9.5-5.0. The Saints' defense was stout throughout, limiting Iona to just a .128 attack percentage. Sophomore libero Bobbi Lin Kalama paced four Saints in double-digit digs with a season-high 25.

Siena got off to a strong start, hitting a stellar .393 in the first set. Skeen led the way, killing a season-best 47.6% of her attacks for the match. The Saints scored 14 of the final 18 points which included four kills from Wright to break an early 11-all tie.

The Saints trailed 10-7 early in the second set, but scored the next five points to reclaim the lead for good. Iona avoided the sweep, racing out to a 16-9 lead in winning the third set handily.

Taylor Cembalisty and Catrina Warren led Iona with 11 kills apiece. Warren finished with a double-double, adding 15 digs.

Siena continues its four-match conference road trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. first serve at Manhattan.
