Siena's comeback bid came up short at Fairfield Wednesday despite another big effort from junior Briana Flagg. The Stags took over first place with the four-set win (25-19, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-23), while the Saints fall into a tie for second with Marist.

Siena (16-11, 12-5) finishes regular-season play at Marist Saturday needing a victory and a bunch of help to secure the top seed in next week's MAAC Championships.

Fairfield (17-9, 12-4) sprinted to a 2-0 lead with convincing 25-19 and 25-18 wins in the first two sets. Siena came out with new energy after intermission, rallying from 23-20 down to win the third set 25-23. The fourth set was back-and-forth throughout, and it appeared Siena might force a fifth set when it led 22-20, but the Stags won five of the last six points to secure the match.

Junior Briana Flagg continued her outstanding campaign with a match-high 21 kills in 63 attacks on the outside. She completed a double-double with 11 digs. Sonja Vasovic played one of her top matches of the season with 14 kills and a .355 attack percentage, but it wasn't enough.

The Stags took advantage of 18 Siena attack errors in the first two sets to build the big early lead. Megan Theiller led Fairfield with 15 kills and 17 digs. Skyler Day added 14 kills, and Megan O'Sullivan had 11 kills and five blocks.

Siena freshman Darby Taylor had a career-best and game-high 22 digs. Bobbi Lin Kalama and Kalehua Katagiri each had 17.

Fairfield is the only team in the MAAC Siena hasn't defeated this season. The Stags knocked off the Saints in four sets in Loudonville earlier this season.
