Marquis Wright Out Indefinitely With Stress Fracture

Dec. 29, 2015

Siena will be without star guard Marquis Wright for at least the next six weeks. Wright suffered a foot injury during practice on Saturday, December 26.

"Marquis has a stress fracture in his right foot," team orthopedic physician Richard Alfred, MD said. "If the recovery goes as expected he will miss six to eight weeks."

Using that timeline, the soonest Wright could return is the Saints' February 11 home game against Canisius.

Wright was enjoying a phenomenal junior season prior to the injury. He is one of just four players in Division I averaging at least 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals per game, joining Michael Gbinije (Syracuse), Alex Hamilton (Louisiana Tech) and Ben Simmons (LSU). Wright has also made 55% of his three-point tries this season, tops in the MAAC. He has reached double figures in all 12 games he played, and scored 20 points or more five times. He was named MAAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career Monday after registering a double-double (20 points, 10 assists) in the Saints' 73-70 win over St. Bonavanture.

Siena finished non-league play Tuesday with its best out of conference record in 17 years heading into to today's game at Vermont. The Saints return to MAAC play Saturday when they host Niagara.
