LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Thirteen different Great Danes scored as seventh ranked UAlbany defeated Siena Lacrosse 23-7 at Siena Turf Field. Freshman Tim Cousin scored a season-high three points and posted his first collegiate multi-goal game for the Saints.
Siena (5-8) opened the scoring but UAlbany (12-2), which boasts the nation's top scoring offense, responded with the next 18 goals. The Great Danes held a 51-31 edge in shots and forced the Saints into 26 turnovers.
The Saints controlled the faceoff X thanks in large part to the efforts of senior Casey Dowd whose 18 wins and 16 groundballs were both his second highest totals of the season. Overall, Siena posted its highest groundball total in two years in holding a 42-41 edge in the category.
Bennett Drake, John Maloney and Seth Oakes led a balanced UAlbany offense with four points apiece. The nation's all-time career scoring leader Lyle Thompson added three assists.
In addition to Cousin, five other Saints scored including senior defenseman Weston French and freshman Mike Vitale who netted their first collegiate goals. Sophomore defenseman Ryan Ghaderi set a career-high with four caused turnovers for the Saints which fell to 2-18 all-time against USILA Top-20 opponents.
Siena concludes regular season action Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Poughkeepsie against MAAC Regular Season Champion Marist. The Saints need to defeat the Red Foxes and get losses from both Canisius and Monmouth to qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
