Final Stats | Watch Replay

Siena led by as many as 30 in the second half on its way to a startling 99-78 MAAC road triumph at Canisius Sunday. The Saints shot 66% from the field, the fourth-best effort by any Division I team in a road game this season, and the best (tied) ever in the 48-year history of the Koessler Center.

Lavon Long had a career-high 25 points, but that was the least of his accomplishments. He was a perfect 7-7 from the field and 11-11 from the free throw line, becoming the first player since December 29, 2001 (Clyde McCully -- Chattanooga (8-8 FG, 11-11 FT) to make at least seven field goals and 11 free throws without a miss. Long added a career-high eight assists in 31 minutes played.

Brett Bisping scored 27 points on 9-11 shooting, and rounded out a double-double with 11 rebounds. Nico Clareth finished with 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. He made 7-11 field goals.

Siena's 66% field goal percentage was the best for a road MAAC team since the Saints joined the conference in 1989, topping Iona's 63.3% effort at Marist earlier this season.

Long and Clareth paced a 27-assist effort that matched the most for Siena in a game since January 17, 2000 against Niagara. The Saints' 99 points were the most in a game since November 28, 2009 when they scored 99 against Brown at The Palestra. Siena hasn't eclipsed 100 since March 1, 2003, and hadn't scored 99 in a true road game since a 105-103 loss at Penn State on March 20, 2000.

Siena's record-setting day started with a record-setting first half. The Saints led 48-38 at the break after shooting 63% from the field and getting 15 points from Bisping. It was their most points scored in the first half since the 48 they had in a victory over St. Bonaventure November 19, 2013. The 48 were the most in the first half of a road game since scoring 49 at Fairfield January 5, 2006 (93 games).

While the victory provided plenty of opportunity to look into the past, its implications for the future could be monumental. The Saints avoided falling out of the top-five in the conference standings, and distanced themselves from the fast-charging Griffs who had won three straight. Siena also avenged blowout losses here each of the last three seasons.

Canisius honored coach John Beilein and his teams from 1993-96 that went to two NITs and captured the program's only MAAC Championship in 1996 at halftime. With Beilein looking on, Siena equaled the Koessler Center field goal percentage record his team set on November 30, 1993 against Buffalo (also 33-50). The Koessler Center was opened in 1968.

Siena will try for its first Western New York sweep since 2007-08 Tuesday when it travels to play Niagara in a game that will be televised statewide on time Warner Cable Sports Channel.
