Jan. 5, 2016
As we begin 2016, we take a look back at the top Siena Athletics' moments of 2015. Over the next 10 days, we will count down the Top-10 Moments of the Year, beginning today with Moment #10.
The Moment
Dec. 6 â€" Siena crushed a field of 11 in the annual ECAC Winter Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island. The Saints finished with 1,600 points, easily topping second place Pace, third place Long Island and MAAC member Manhattan.
Why We Loved It
It was a total team effort. Freshman Theresa Cotter broke two school records on her way to top-three performances in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. Three Saints placed in the top-five in the 200-yard breaststroke, four were in the top-five in the 200-yard fly. Siena's relay teams all registered scoring performances, and senior standout Hailey Beers won the 3-meter diving competition with a 242.95 on her way to earning MAAC Diver of the Week and ECAC Diver of the meet.
Behind the Scenes
The meet took a place at an especially challenging time â€" right before final exams week at Siena. The Saints arrived early each day and studied on the pool deck prior to competition.
Did You Know?
Siena head coach Paul Kueterman, now in his sixth season, was named the Women's Coach of the Meet after the Saints' captured the title.
Quotable
"This was a fun, exciting meet. We had numerous top-three performances. The team swam and dove with confidence. After winning ECACs, the team has become even more motivated to keep continuing the success of the program. I'm really proud of them." â€" Head Coach Paul Kueterman
