Siena clinched the number five seed in the MAAC Tournament with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-15) sweep on Saint Peter's. This is the third straight year the Saints have clinched a spot in the MAAC Tournament.
After Saint Peter's took the first point, Siena took a 6-4 lead. The Peacocks were able to come back and tie the set 7-7, but Saints then went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-7 lead. Saint Peter's could not come close to the Saints in the first set after that point. After going on a 4-0 run, Siena closed out the set 25-15.
The second set started off with a lot of back-and-forth action between the two conference foes. Saint Peter's led 17-12 before Bobbi Lin Kalama went to serve. The Saints went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 18-17. The set would remain close as the MAAC foes fought for the victory. Siena came out on top and took the second set 25-22.
Siena jumped out quickly in the third set going up 6-1. They were able to continue to hold off the Peacocks after a 5-0 run that put them up 16-4. Saint Peter's did not give up and chipped away at the lead, but Siena wanted to come back to the Capital District with a victory before the MAAC Tournament. The Saints took the third set and match 25-15.
Sonja Vasovic led the Saints with seven service aces. Samantha Pethokoukis tallied 11 kills for Siena, while Vasovic added nine. Haley Howell notched a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs. Both Bobbi Lin Kalama and Annie Stock recorded 10 digs a piece.
The Saints earned the number five seed in the MAAC Tournament and will face #4 seeded Rider on Friday, November 18 at 8 p.m.
