LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena men's soccer clinched the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament after they fell 2-1 to Marist at Siena Turf Field. This marked the first conference loss on Siena Turf Field, a streak dating back to last season.
Siena (8-8-3, 6-3-1) came out off the first whistle looking to take the win and possibly take the regular season title. After controlling the ball for the first couple of minutes and getting shots off, the Saints were able to get the ball into the net. In just the eighth minute Milorad Sobot got a rebound off a Red Fox turnover to put the Saints up 1-0.
In the first half Siena outshot Marist (11-6-1, 6-4) 13-3 and hoped to keep the that momentum going throughout the second half.
The Red Foxes came into the second half looking to guarantee themselves a spot in the MAAC Tournament. It was a tightly contested battle as both teams fought for the win. Marist tied the match in the 77'. The Red Foxes turned right around and scored less than two minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.
That was a lead Marist would hold onto until the final horn sounded. Aleksa Radosavljevic recorded seven saves for the Saints.
The Saints locked up the program's third straight MAAC Tournament berth and eighth in the past 10 seasons following their 3-3 tie v. Canisius Wednesday.
Siena will be the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament and host No. 6 seed Monmouth in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Siena Turf Field. Match time is TBA.
