Demos Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Feb. 16, 2016 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena College Vice President and Director of Athletics John D’Argenio has announced the promotion of Mike Demos to assistant athletic director for communications. Demos succeeds Jason Rich who was recently named the College’s director of marketing and communications.

In his new role, Demos will oversee the athletic communications office which includes the media and event coverage, publicity, and promotional efforts for the department’s 22 Division I programs and nearly 350 student athletes. Additionally, he will coordinate and manage the department’s external communications, digital assets, and social media platforms and maintain the department website (SienaSaints.com) which includes the production of live athletic event coverage through the multimedia platform SienaAllAccess.com.

“Mike has worked extremely hard and very collaboratively during his 10 years with the department,” said D’Argenio. “During that time he has developed the skills and temperament that will serve him well in his new role. I’m confident that he will shine in his new job and continue to present Siena’s athletes and teams in a positive way.”

Demos joined the Siena Athletic Department in September 2006 and has served as the full-time athletic communications assistant since October 2011. Since that time, he has overseen the athletic communications, media relations, and promotional initiatives while serving as the primary media contact for the women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and running programs. Additional duties have included the supervision of the department’s multimedia intern, coordination and oversight of student workers, and a leadership role in the implementation of the BlueShield of Northeastern New York “Saints in the Community” program.

For the past 10 years, Demos also has served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the women’s basketball program in addition to announcing numerous other Siena Athletic events. Demos first joined Siena Athletics as a marketing intern and also spent time working as a group sales associate and summer camp coordinator prior to joining the athletic communications staff exclusively.

Demos also has served as a panel moderator at several previous CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and ECAC-SIDA (East Coast Athletic Conference) conventions and was a member of the local organizing committee for the 2014 ECAC-SIDA held in nearby Troy.

A native of Canton, Mass., Demos received his B.A. in Communications from Elon University in May 2006. In addition to his work at Siena, he previously announced minor league baseball games for the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and Houston Astros organizations, serving as the radio broadcaster for the Burlington Indians (2006), Lowell Spinners (2007), and Tri-City ValleyCats (2009), respectively.
