Sophomore attack Chris Robertson scored a career-high eight points to fuel Siena Lacrosse to a pivotal 16-11 conference road win at Manhattan. With the victory, the Saints moved into a three-way tie for fourth place in the MAAC Standings with both Detroit and Monmouth heading into next weekend's regular season finale against the Hawks. The top-four teams qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
Robertson tallied five goals and three assists for Siena (3-8, 2-3) which erupted for its highest scoring output in three seasons since posting an 18-12 win at Quinnipiac on Apr. 9, 2014. Classmate Brian Prunty added a career-high four points including his second hat trick of the season for the Saints which both started and ended strong in combining to score 13 goals in the first and final quarters.
Manhattan (3-11, 1-4) jumped out to a quick 4-2 advantage, but Siena rallied to claim a 7-5 lead following a high scoring first quarter. The Saints ultimately scored seven of the final nine goals of the first half to take a 9-6 lead at the break.
The Jaspers cut the deficit to 10-8 through three quarters holding Siena scoreless for more than 12 minutes, however the Saints responded with the first four goals of the fourth quarter to pull away and secure the crucial MAAC win.
Eleven players tallied points including nine who scored goals for Siena which held a 45-36 advantage in shots and a 35-27 margin in groundballs. Mike Reilly joined Robertson and Prunty in recording career-highs, as the freshman added a season-best three points.
Parker Giarrantana netted a hat trick and Alex Abiog, Matt Garvey (three points) and Zach Mermelstein each added two goals for Manhattan.
Prior to Saturday's showdown against Monmouth, the Saints will first conclude their three-game road trip Tuesday at crosstown rival and nationally ranked UAlbany. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised live throughout New York on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
