ALBANY, N.Y. – UAlbany scored six fourth quarter goals as the fifth ranked Great Danes pulled away late to defeat Siena Lacrosse 17-8 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. Reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Chris Robertson recorded another strong effort, leading the Saints with four points on a pair of goals and assists.
Connor Fields scored a game-high eight points on four goals and four assists and Seth Oakes contributed a hat trick for UAlbany (11-2) which won its eighth in a row. Zach Ornstein went 19-26 at the faceoff X, picked up nine groundballs and scored for the Great Danes which entered play ranked fifth in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and Inside Lacrosse/Cascade Maverik Media Poll.
Jordan Barlow tallied three points on a pair of goals and an assist for Siena (3-9) which fell to 2-20 all-time against USILA Top-20 opponents. Luke Van Schepen caused three turnovers on the defensive end for the Saints which forced UAlbany into 13 miscues while committing just 10 turnovers of their own.
The Great Danes led 7-4 following a tightly contested first half in which Siena held advantages in both shots (21-16) and groundballs (17-15). The Saints battled hard throughout and remained within four goals at 11-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but UAlbany struck five times over the first seven and a half minutes of the final stanza to pull away and record their third straight win in the series.
Siena concludes regular season action Saturday when they host Monmouth on Senior Day at 1 p.m. at Siena Turf Field in a contest that will be televised throughout New York on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and elsewhere on ESPN3. The Saints and Hawks enter the final weekend in a three-way tie with Detroit for fourth place in the MAAC. The top-four teams qualify for the MAAC Tournament.
