Siena fell in both matches of the Beantown Challenge in Cambridge, Massachusetts. First, the Saints went up against the University of New Hampshire and fell in a five-set battle 3-2 (25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-13). Siena then faced tournament host Harvard and was swept 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-16).

Match One vs. New Hampshire (L, 3-2)
To open up their Beantown Challenge, Siena put up a solid showing against the University of New Hampshire. UNH took the victory in a thrilling five-sets 3-2 (25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 15-13). This is just the second time the Wildcats have defeated the Saints.

Sonja Vasovic notched her first career double-double as she set career-highs in both kills (20) and digs (17).

Right off first serve it was clear this match would be tight as the two teams battled for a victory. With UNH leading 16-12, the Wildcats took the next four points to take a 19-12 lead. The Saints continued to chip away at the lead, but UNH took the first set 25-16.

The second set contained a lot of back and forth action as both teams fought for control. There were five ties and three lead changes throughout the set. With the score tied 21-21, Siena used three kills by Vasovic, Haley Howell and Briana Flagg along with an error by UNH to take the second set 25-21.

Siena quickly gained control in the third set going up 9-5 on the Wildcats. UNH brought the score close as they trailed 14-12, but the Saints went on a run. Siena picked up the next four points to take an 18-12 lead. The Saints would not back down and took the third set 25-18.

With Siena up 2-1 in the match, the third set was led by UNH as they tried to force a fifth set. The Saints would fight hard, but there would be no ties or lead changes in the third set. The Wildcats took the fourth set and forced a fifth with a 25-16 victory.

Similar to the fourth set there were no lead changes or ties in the fifth set. UNH took the first point and was able to remain in the lead for the entirety of the set. New Hampshire took the fifth set 15-13 and with that won the match.

Flagg notched her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 17 digs. Siena had multiple players set career-highs during the match. Howell tied her career-high five kills for the Saints. Brittney Herrick tallied a new career-high seven kills and four blocks, while Annie Stock recorded her first career service ace. Ramona Georgescu notched a career-high three kills and tied her career-highs in both digs (1) and blocks (2). Julia Burzynski tallied a career-high two digs and two blocks.

Match Two at Harvard (L, 3-0)
Siena and Harvard started the match off with the teams exchanging points. Harvard took five straight point to take a big 16-8 lead after four score ties and two lead changes. It was that point that the Crimson would not let go of their lead. The Saints fought hard but fell 25-16 in the first set.

In the second set, both teams began with back and forth action. Hard held onto a 12-11 lead and followed that up with five straight points for a 16-11 lead. Siena would chip away at the lead as the Crimson looked for the 2-0 advantage. Harvard took the second set 25-15.

Harvard continued to hold the advantage over Siena. Similar to the second set, the Crimson led 11-10 and then went on a 7-0 run for an 18-10 lead over the Saints. Siena followed that with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 19-15. Harvard did not let up and took the third set 25-16.

Burzynski led the Saints with six kills, while Vasovic added five. Howell dished out 14 assists. Kalehua Katagiri tallied 10 digs for Siena.

Siena will finish up their time at the Beantown Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Georgia. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
