Siena's Top-10 Moments of 2016: Moment #4

Jan. 10, 2017

As we begin 2017, we take a look back at the Top-10 Siena Athletics Moments of 2016. We continue our countdown today with Moment #4.

The Moment
Mar. 15 - Siena Basketball made its 13th Division I national postseason tournament appearance and fifth in the past nine seasons. In addition to winning the CBI in 2014, the Saints have also made six NCAA Tournament and five NIT appearances and boast a stellar 18-12 (.600) all-time record in national postseason tournaments during the program's Division I era.

The Saints entered the CBI with a 21-12 overall record following the program's 20th 20-win campaign in the 75 season history of Siena Basketball and 16th in the past 32 years. During the regular season, the Saints played nine teams ranked in the top-85 of the final NCAA RPI, which Siena won three. Siena's non-conference RPI stood at 44th and non-conference strength of schedule is a MAAC-best 66th.

The Saints became the first team since the NCAA Tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1985 to play its first two games of the season against defending national champion (Duke) and runner-up (Wisconsin). They achieved a 10-win improvement from the previous season, which was tied for the 12th best nationally.

Siena would fall 84-80 in the first round of the CBI to Morehead State, the eventual CBI Runner-up.
