Jan. 16, 2017 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Jackie Benitez earns MAAC Player of the Week honors. This is Benitez's second weekly award of the season. Benitez was also named College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week.
The Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania native averaged 23 points per game this week as the Saints went 3-0 in conference play. Starting off the week at the reigning MAAC Champions Iona, Benitez scored 15 points to help Siena take down the Gaels. She then set a new career-high 34 points against Monmouth. Benitez is the only MAAC player this season to score 30 or more points twice this season. She followed that up with a 20-point performance against Saint Peter's.
Benitez averaged 23 points per game while going 22-for-38 (.579) from the field and nine-for-17 (.529) from trey. She missed just one free throw and went 16-for-17 (.941) as she continues to lead the MAAC from the charity stripe. Benitez grabbed 10 boards and swiped the ball 15 times, including eight against Iona and six against the Hawks. She had no turnovers against the Peacocks.
The Saints return to action on Friday, Jan. 20 as they face Marist on the road. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
